Help us continue our work
Hikmat Heads South!!!!
June 2, 2016
We are pleased to announce, thanks to an Awards For All Lottery Grant that Hikmat will be setting up an Activity Group in South Devon (based in Newton Abbot) in response to need for support for people from different ethnic backgrounds living in South Devon. The group will work to improve health and wellbeing outcomes through exercise, skill learning and training but also act as a portal for users to seek help with complex needs, working with the Mentor to overcome personal obstacles they and their family may face. Members of the group will also be assisted in accessing external services such as English classes, support groups, carers support, statutory services and other relevant services. The group will meet 2 x a month in a community setting in the centre of Newton Abbot. Activities will depend on members needs but likely to cover exercise to improve physical wellbeing (teacher led yoga/gentle exercise, badminton), skills workshops such as healthy eating cooking, sewing and craft skills, externally led sessions covering energy efficiency, managing your money, and various health topics. We will also offer 2 x training sessions during the year (level 1 and 2) covering confidence building, conflict resolution, and communication. If you live in South Devon and are from a minority ethnic background – please contact us to keep in touch.
