Supporting Parents with Autistic Children

Over 25 parents of Autistic children from 10 ethnicities came together at Ellen Tinkham School on 31st January for a customised ‘Understanding Autism Course’ run by the brilliant Sam Harris from Bis-Net an organisation who supports parents struggling with challenging behaviours. The course was enabled through partnership working with contributions from Ellen Tinkham, Bis-Net and Hikmat Devon, after a need was highlighted for parents to better understand Autism.

It was a very interactive session using film clips, pictures and examples to help break down how autism effects people and why certain behaviours appear. Parents shared stories and experiences, and networked.

Ellen Tinkham, Bis-Net and Hikmat Devon hope to work together again soon to provide more support to these parents in the future.
