Hikmat hosts the first screening outside London of Jordan Patterson's feature length documentary
The crowds came out last night for the first screening outside London of Jordan Patterson's feature length documentary Tricks on the Dead. A documentary about the Chinese labour corps in the First World War. We were delighted to welcome one of the worlds leading experts on the history of the CLC, Gregory James. Gregory held a fascinating question and answer session following the screening, adding details and further information to what was seen in the documentary. The film is a fascinating summary of the Clc story from recruitment in china through the journey across Canada to the struggles of labourers on the Western Front. The Hikmat project over the last three years has been on a journey with others learning and uncovering this history so for those in the audience last night this film was a fantastic visualisation of the stories we've been exploring. An important and fascinating history, of people, cultures and war with lessons for us all.
Following the success of last nights event we are hoping to screen this film again here in the South West. For all those who weren't able to come last night we hope to see you next time!
